Before you start.

I have an idea but no technical background: can you still help?
That's exactly who I build for. You bring the vision and the knowledge of your world; I handle everything technical and keep it in plain English the whole way.
How much does it cost to build my idea?
A starter site of one to three pages begins at £450 and can be live in a few days. A business site of up to five pages starts at £990, and fuller websites from £1,500. Booking and business sites start from £2,500. Web apps with member areas and payments are priced on application after I have scoped them. You'll always get a fixed quote before any work begins. The cost of any build can be spread across up to six monthly payments at 0% interest, with hosting included.
Can I pay for my build monthly?
Yes. Any build from £450 can be split into equal monthly payments at 0% interest, with hosting included. When you have paid, you roll onto Hosting Plus at £25 a month and can upgrade whenever you like.
Is the 0% really 0%?
Yes. You pay the quoted price for the build in equal monthly payments. There is no interest, no arrangement fee and no charge for paying early. Hosting is included in those payments.
What happens after my last payment?
You roll onto Hosting Plus at £25 a month automatically, or onto Hosting only at £10 a month if you choose that when you book. Nothing else changes and the site stays live. You can upgrade whenever you like, or cancel with 30 days' notice in writing (email is fine).
What if I miss a payment?
You get a 14-day grace period, and I will remind you before it ends. A failed payment counts as a missed payment. If the payment is still missing after 14 days, your site goes offline. It goes back live as soon as you are up to date. Stopping payments does not cancel your build, and the remaining balance is still due. To cancel before launch, tell me in writing and you pay for the work done up to that point. Your domain stays in your name throughout.
Can you add logins, member areas and payments?
Yes. Secure logins, member accounts, gated content and Stripe payments or subscriptions are all built in as your idea needs them.
Do I own what you build?
Yes. Your domain is registered in your name from day one, and once your build is paid for, your site and code are yours to take. I build it for you and can maintain it if you want.
How fast can you build it?
Most sites go live in two to three weeks; larger apps take longer, but modern tooling means I move in weeks, not months.
Will you look after it after launch?
If you'd like. Hosting only is £10/month and just keeps your site live. Care plans start at £25/month for hosting, backups and security, and go up to plans with a monthly allowance of changes, reporting and faster replies, so it keeps working and improving after day one. There's no lock-in and no obligation. Once your build is paid for, plenty of people take their site and run it themselves.
How much should a small business website cost in the UK?
For a small business, a genuine range is starter sites from £450, business and booking sites £990 to £2,500, and web apps and membership sites with logins and payments priced on application. Be wary of both ends: a £99 site is usually a template you cannot edit, and a £15,000 quote for a brochure site is usually paying for an agency's overheads rather than your website.
Do I own my website and domain?
Your domain is registered in your name from the start. Once your build is paid for, your site and code are yours to take, and you can host them anywhere. This is worth checking with any developer before you sign. If the domain is registered to the agency rather than to you, moving later becomes their decision rather than yours.
What's the difference between a freelance web developer and an agency?
With an agency you usually get an account manager, and the person building your site may be several steps removed from your conversation. With me you talk to the person doing the work, so nothing gets lost relaying it. Agencies win on capacity for very large projects; a freelancer wins on cost, speed and directness for most small business work.
Can you take over a website that someone else built?
Yes. Taking over sites from developers who have gone quiet, or from agencies that became hard to deal with, is a regular part of my work. I will assess what you have, help you recover access and ownership, and tell you honestly whether it is worth fixing or rebuilding.
